BLOG POST 16 - the importance of sound in a film

Sound is important in a film as it is used to establish tone and the atmosphere of the film, it also gives the audience clues about the plotline and the characters. It is also used to 'suspend disbelief' which is the idea of taking the audience from the real thing into the world of the film; this is needed in a film to create realism for the viewer and heighten their experience of the film. To achieve a successful sound track that'll entice the viewers, you'll need to layer different types of sound. The layering of sounds makes the sound and image combine which makes the scene appear seamless. When layering sounds you need to use diegetic sound effects (it is originated from sources within the film world) and non-diegetic sound effects (it is the sound that is added on), this will produce a more dramatic outcome than by just using them by themselves and it will also suspend disbelief which allows the viewer to identify what genre the film is.
