The Blog
In my opinion I think that Group 8's blog is my favourite. This is because of how detailed their posts are and how much information we are given. The theme/background of the blog also gives a reference to the groups title sequence, this helps give us an insight into what we'll expect to see in their film.
From a glance, you can already see the range of media apps the group have used on their blog to make it interactive and pleasing to the eye. In just one post, they embedded a YouTube video and various Padlet posts. Throughout their posts they use other media apps such as; Emaze, Prezi, PowToon and many more. This is a great indication of their IT skills because it shows they can work across a range of apps.
Overall, blog is well presented and easy to navigate, each post
is clearly marked with the title of the task which helps the viewer know what
they’re going to be seeing. Each member of the group has about 90 posts which
is 45 more than the recommended number. This shows that each member of the team
had pride for their work and made an effort to post often so they could
maintain a high grade.
The Title Sequence
Group 8’s title sequence is one of my personal favourites
because of the quality of work produced. The film is titled “Emily” and in the
sequence we are presented with the main character. Throughout the sequence we
get a sort of ominous feeling as Emily is getting ready to go out. Everything
starts off normally; she applies lipstick and brushes her hair but at a closer
look we are able to spot labels around her room marked with words like “poison”.
The sequence takes a turn when she leaves her house and we witness her murder
another girl.
A number of different camera angles are used throughout the
piece. At the beginning we are provided with an establishing long shot of
Camden Station. This helps us determine the location the film is set in. We
also see an extreme close-up of Emily’s lips as she applies lipstick. The focus
on the lips leads us to believe that this is just a normal girl applying make-up
before she goes out. There’s a sudden change in lighting when she leaves her
house, we see a dark setting of an alley way and the camera shot is a
high-angle as Emily enters. The use of the high-angle shot suggests to us that
this is CCTV footage. This adds an eerie feel to the film as we become aware
that something major is going to take place.
The use of non-diegetic sound in the piece is brilliant. The
music at the beginning is classical music. It gives us a calm feeling as she is
getting ready and makes the audience feel happy. But, there is a major change
in music as she leaves her room and we see a shot of her ‘Tracking board’. As
the sequence goes on, the music gets more and more intense, leaving the
audience on the edge of their seats. The classical music and intense music
greatly contrast each other.
A generic convention often used in thriller movies is a calm
beginning where the audience is made to believe that the protagonist is an
innocent person but as time goes on very disturbing things may be discovered
about them. I enjoy this portrayal in group 8’s opening sequence and believe
that this film was very well planned.
