Blog 22- Evaluation of our remake on 'The Breakfast Club'

We decided to do a remake of the opening of 'The Breakfast Club', as we thought it would be easy to recreate the shots since we didn't find the shots to complex to film. Furthermore, we could use the college as part of our shots which would be quite similar to the original which was taken in a high school. We decided to do a modern version for our remake for this film.  We wanted to portray this by our choice of props we included in our shots.

It was fairly easy to note down the shots as they were not very complex. It was easy to see and identify the shots as we identified it went from one close up to the other showing different objects. However, we did adjust the items in the remake to suit our preference. As a group we watched the Breakfast Club opening and carefully made sure we had all the right shots and objects that we wanted to include in our remake.

Jessi was drawing the storyboard for each of the shots, whilst the rest of us were giving suggestions of how we could make the shots as clear as possible. However, whilst drawing the storyboard we forgot to add a lot of detail, which made us forget some of the ideas and suggestions which we were discussing to include in our shots.

We needed to shot our college- City and Islington Sixth Form College as our location. This was very important to include as it made a great impact in establishing the setting. We did not have any characters, so thinking about costumes was not necessary.

At first it was difficult in choosing the closet colour of the titles which would would seem like the original. However, we gradually got used to it and with some trial and error our titles eventually turned out very well.

As 'The Breakfast Club' has quite simple titles on a black screen, we decided to go with a similar typography. As the font of the titles was were yellow we went with yellow titles for our remake. We made the size of the titles quite big so they stood out and it was such a success.

The choice of font was perfect as it looked quite modern like our remake of 'The Breakfast Club'. It also suited the tone the film which seemed quite peaceful.

Out titles were before the action and narrative of the film, so we did not have to worry if the titles matched with the action of the shots. Our titles were placed on the black screens before the narrative started we therefore had contrasting titles.
Although we were not quite accurate with the voice over in our remake. The voice over in our remake started right from the beginning when it was actually meant to play as soon our shots were shown.

If we did this remake again, I would ensure we added enough detail to the storyboard so everything seemed as clear as possible. Furthermore, I would also make sure that we knew the exact time to film the shots, so it could fit in with the voice over. I would also make sure that we include all the shots we missed out during our remake as we ran out of time. However, I am very proud of our results and believe it was a fantastic attempt. This remake just shows how much we have improved from our prelim filming, which including myself and everyone in our group are extremely pleased with.

Comparisons

The original

Our remake had a similar font

Original - High school
In our remake had an educational institute- our college

Original - Computers
Our remake had a similar shot but we wanted to create a modern version of The Breakfast Club, so we used Mac computers. By looking at it, you can tell it is much more advanced than the computers used in the remake. Thus we accomplished our aim to make our remake seem more modern in our shots we filmed.
